Remote control :

To prevent radio interference and to guard against the resulting damage to the RC car a digital remote control should be used.

Servo

The power steering for the RC car should always receive the predetermined constant voltage, so that no defects or damages occur. For this a DC converter is ideally suited. For strong and fast driving 14-18 Kg traction force is ideal for the power steering model.

Model cars bodywork

Aerodynamic:

Choose the model body primarily for its appearance and design. An aerodynamic body for the RC car to obtain more grip is of little value, because the speed is too low. Wings and spoiler improve the stability a little. The body should be flat and therefore more aerodynamic. Do not cover the underbody of the car. It would prevent sufficient cooling of the combustion engine.

Vehicle height

The optimum is to have the rear axle a little higher than the front axle.

RC model Combustion Engines

Compression

To tune the engine correctly tests are unavoidable. The aim is to find the maximum torque at the highest power. The compression ratio can be increased. The easiest way is to use different strengths of cylinder base seals. However, a seal that is too thick can have a negative effect.

Fuel

For the combustion model cars hobby different fuel types are used: nitro delivers high power with the glow ignition engine. Normal fuel between 98-108 octane is used for the spark-ignited model engines. As a rough guide the mix ratio between fuel and oil is 1:30.

Carburettor

The carburettor atomizes fuel with air and thereby develops an ignitable gas mixture for the 2-stroke engine. In order for the combustion engine to rev up neatly the setting on the carburettor should be lightly greased.

Increase performance

The greatest performance increase is obtained by tuning the model engines or by increasing the engine speed. A cheap and effective alternative is to reduce the friction in the drive and engine parts. Reworking, chamfering and greasing various parts can reduce the friction and increase the power of the RC car.

Engine cooling

The model engine is running optimally only when the operating temperature is correct. In order to prevent overheating of the combustion engine cut out the glass panels from the car body, do not cover the underbody of the car and make sure that the engine and cooling fins are clean.

Transmission

Drive 2WD 4WD

For better power transmission and lighter steering of RC model cars the 4WD (4-wheel drive) is preferable to the 2WD (rear or front wheel drive). The higher the performance of the cars, the more unstable the 2WD becomes.

Clutch

With an adjustable clutch different engine sizes with different torque can be adjusted to each requirement. Performance model engines have maximum torque at high speeds, the clutch should therefore be set to “late engaging”.

Traction

A high level of traction in 4WD RC car can be achieved by even weight distribution and low centre of gravity. 2WD models must have the most weight on the drive axle.
